PostSubject: Do you believe in reincarnation?   Do you believe in reincarnation? EmptySun Mar 07, 2010 11:18 pm

Here’s a subject I feel nobody wants to mentioned concerning those interested in the Zulu war. But its something I have felt very strong about ever since my obsession with the Zulu war began. (I have always wanted to discuss this subject in-dept my never bother to ask until now. I was looking for the information that John as requested and came across this by Ian knight. I have highlighted the text, which is of interest to me. (By the way I’m not a nutter)

It was 1979, Knight was just 22 years old, and he had made the long trek to the isolated battlefield in Zululand with a group of other history buffs in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the legendary struggle.

"It was a strange, extraordinary experience. The battles had already been alive inside my head for a long time before I got out there, I think because I'd read so much about it," he recalls. "In those days there wasn't really any kind of developed tourism in the area. Our hotels were two or three hours away, and it was quite an effort to get to the battle site. We literally had to be bussed in. There was very much a sense of a journey. I remember we drove up and went over a rise, and when it dipped over the other side, there was the mountain -- Isandlwana -- in the distance. I recall that I felt 'Well, this is it. I've been drawn toward this my whole life and there it is straight in front of me.'"

I think we all know that Ian Knight’s Interest started when his father took him along to see the Film Zulu. Was in more than the film, what was else was it that grab the attention of this now well known Zulu War Historian. Ian was not even aware that his relative had fought and Died at Isandlwana until many years later.
But in his own words.

“There was the mountain -- Isandlwana -- in the distance. I recall that I felt 'Well, this is it. I've been drawn toward this my whole life and there it is straight in front of me.'"

I would like to bet that as he climbed the slopes towards Isandlwana, it would have felt like he was going to meet long lost friends. Could this have been because he as read and wrote so much on this Battle or was it something else?

Do you believe in reincarnation?

Are you drawn to a particular Soldier that took part and died in the Zulu war?

Have you ever seen an Image of the Zulu War and felt drawn to it personally

Have you ever come across the name of another soldier that died? That seemed familiar to you.

And which Zulu War Battle are you most drawn to.

Are you part of a re-enactment group connected with the Zulu War? How do you feel when you put on the uniform and handle the weapons of the type that were used 130 years ago in the Zulu War.

Like I said this may not be everyone cup of tea, But I find it extremely interesting.

A lot of agression building on this site.
Elizabeth surely Oh is entitled to post a topic, if you disagree a simple mention of that would be sufficient.
I can however agree with Ian Knight. I first visited Isandlawana in 1968. The dirt road leading in was only just passable. There was no road to RD and to get between the two meant a massive detour.
The original access road cuts over the Nquto hills through the then village of Silutswana. There was no sign of the battlefield untill rounding a bend on the rise it suddenly bursts in front of you. The effect was startling. Driving down onto the plain along the approximate route of the left horn the battlefield itself slowly unwinds, the old road cut round the back of the Koppie and came out next to the old trading post adjacent to Durnfords Donga. The track to the saddle was barely passable for a car. But all the time the mountain did seem to draw you in. when Id got as close to the saddle as I could, just below Durnfords last stand I got out and gazed around. Ian was correct, a sense of 'at last' invaded me.
I dont believe in re incarnation, but believe me if there is are places in the world where spirits linger , its in Mons Ypes and isandlawana.
I camped on the battlefield that night, half way up blacks Koppie. To say it was surreal would be an understatement. To sit there on a fairly dark night, no moon, no street lights, no ambient light and just feel the battlefield is a memory second to none.
Bottom line Im trying to get at is really Ian Knight describes his feelings better than i, but hes spot on. OH has interpreted that the way he would like to do so. Good for him, Im not going to Knock him for that and I dont believe he deserves it.

With all due respect Elizabeth, your a highly intelligent lady, show a tad more respect.

Hi all,
I think if you talk to anyone who is 50+ about the war it is by far the film zulu that got there interest going, all my battles with my toy soldiers were based on rorkes drift using what ever i could for barricades and the soldiers uniforms did not matter and arabs and red indians took the place of the zulus,
As for reading on the subject that started after my brother got me Washing of the Spears as a birthday gift when i was about 15, i was hooked my own research started and i too went on the 1979 centenary tour, i saw it advertised and three weeks later i was in south africa, it was the first time i met Ian Knight and Kieth Reeves and we all remain good friends,
By coincidence myself Ian knight and ian Castle are all the same age, and we all saw the film when it first came out.
I can't remember how many times i have seen the film at the cinema but it must be many.

It seems that the global interest in the Zulu War seems to have taken off are the film Zulu hit the screens. That's what did it for me.

Perhaps re-incarnation is the incorrect term here. The concept of re-incarnation, part of the Hindu religion means the rebirth of the spirit in the form of another being. Pehaps you actually mean that Knight may have been influenced by the spirit world.

As a person sensitive to and believer in the influence of the spirit world I believe that given the right openess Knight may well have been influenced by the spirit of someone from the world of spirit.

My only visit to Isandlwana was in 1980. It was very rural as decribed above and could only be reached via Dundee. The interest was personal, being the site where my gr-uncle met his end with the Carbineers.

For me it was a difficult place to be in. There appeared to be no life there, no animals, no birds just the gentle sigh of the wind as it touched the grass. It was a place I didn't want to be in. There was sense of intense sadness and forboding there. For me it was awful and really depressing.

If you don't believe in the world of spirit and you close off this sense then you easily discount anything like this. If you have little belief in this move on, there is no one forcing you to believe. Perhaps one day, when we pass on we will get to find out ourselves from the people who were there.
