If you have not yet found a copy of this book, then the Regimental Museum of the South Staffs at Whittington, Lichfield, normally has a few copies to sell. failing that try Amazon.

Hi 90th
A splendid source of reference, especially if you collect medals to 80th!!
However, I'd take issue with you over your comment " one of the lesser
known Regt's of the zulu war " - the 80th were in South Africa the longest time from 1877 -1880, and admired by Chelmsford!
Cheers

Just out of Interest. The good lord Chelmsford’s friend Wolseley transferred to the 80th Regiment of Foot. in 1852. Not a lot of people know that !!!

hi Myer's Drifter.
Let me explain , ' Lesser known regiment of the zulu war ' is not meant as a derogatory comment , I am merely wishing to point
out that many new members on this forum more than likely have never heard of them , due to the popularity of the 24 th Regt's
in the two most famous battles . I for one didnt know of them until I started to become interested in the war . Idea
cheers 90th.

Hi 90th
Thanks for that - I understand what you're saying and applaud your intentions. I do think it important that those of us who know anything about the Zulu War help others who have recently become interested, and attempt to rectify the often misinformed notions promulgated by such films as 'Zulu', and 'Zulu Dawn', and certain writers on the subject!! The one that sticks in my throat is the belief tha the 2nd Battalion, the 24th (2nd Wawickshire) Regiment at Rorke's Drift were all Welshmen of the South Wales Borderers (24th)!! Technically the regimental name change did not occur until the 1880s after the Cardwell/ Childers Army Reforms, and of the 11 VCs won at Rorke's Drift only 2 recipients were Welsh !!
Cheers

hi Myer's Drifter.
I agree totally there are some blunders out there that people tend to think as Gospel , the Welsh myth is one .
South Wales Borderer's is another , the name change , part of the Cardwell reforms took place in 1881 , I think !.
The ammunition debate ( Isandlwana ) is another favourite , but we have covered that in depth previously on here .
There are many more and hopefully this forum and the RDVC Forum are setting the record straight , or straighter
in fact . :lol!:
cheers 90th.
