PostSubject: Osprey books....   Wed Jun 30, 2010 1:41 am

Sorry for the inactivity! My family and I attended a local convention a couple weeks ago and I purchased a couple of Osprey books that have information about the Natal Native Police (Zulu War - Volunteers, Irregulars and Auxiliaries; Isandlwana 1879, The great Zulu victory). We're still hoping to find a picture of our ancestor, Trooper Robert J. Kincade. Someone suggested we get in touch with author Ian Knight, so we may pursue that avenue shortly.

We can't look at the film Zulu, or Zulu Dawn the same ever again....to think we had an ancestor survive Isandlwana......WOW!!!

Have a pleasant day/evening!

Ladycat. I would have thought Ian Knight would have used Kincade's photo by now in one of the manay books he has produced.

I agree , if a photo was in public circulation it would have appeared in a book by now . Your best chance is to contact any relatives , particularly elderly ones and ask them - he may have been an uncle or grandad to someone who did not even know his history .

Good luck !

Gary.

LadyCat
When you first posted I started searching through South African archives, all to no avail Im afraid.
if I may suggest, start at the beginning with his life, birthplace etc and work forward, you could be really suprised as to what turns up.

Regards

hi Ladycat .
I have been reliably informed , unfortunatley there isnt a photograph of Trpr Kincade in known existance .
Killie Campbell Library may be able to help , but I doubt it very much. But do keep trying , one never knows
what can turn up in an attic or cellar .
cheers 90th.

PostSubject: Thanks everyone!   Sun Jul 04, 2010 6:01 pm

I love this forum, it's that simple. I was surfing and found someone who's great-great-grandfather (hope I got that right) was a survivor of Isandlwana too. Just how NEAT is that. My sister just happened to find an address for Ian Knight, wheither it's still correct, we don't know. My family and I met Mr. Knight at Historicon some years ago, what a great fella he is. He knows my father, primarily because of Dads interest in Colonials (e.g. to wargaming), the Zulu War and Sword and The Flame. At Historicon, Mr. Knight was selling some wonderful t-shirts commemorating ? w/the Zulu War that right now I can't remember (smile). He had one shirt left, and it was a large.....I grabbed it (smile). I still have that wonderful t-shirt too. Hahahahaha, the looks I get when I'm wearing it during conventions....I love it. Anyway, I'm optimistic we'll track down more information about Trooper Kincade.....be it a picture or something else no one knew about.....who knows.

Have a pleasant day/evening!

Hi
Thats great news, finding another relative to a survivor. Good look finding any information, I can assure you most members of this forum will still be looking or keeping their eyes open.

May I ask you where you are originally from?

thanks joe

PostSubject: Hello Joe!   Sun Jul 04, 2010 6:40 pm

Wow! Quick response, thank you. My family and I are originally from North Carolina, but we relocated to New Orleans, LA just 6-weeks prior to Hurricane Katrina's historic landfall. The city is rebuilding and moving forward very nicely. My Dad (originally from Chicago, IL) has relatives in Wisconsin, they are Kincaids......his cousin is the one who told us about Trooper Robert J. Kincade the first of this year. We were stunned. Now, if by some great Irish luck we locate a picture of Trooper Kincade, and he bears any resemblance to our cousin.....you are going to have to scrap me up off the floor (hahahaha).

Best to you from way across the pond!
