We are all here to communicate and enjoy the various discussions and information on the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Opinions will vary, you will agree and disagree with one another, we will have debates, and so it goes.

| Hi all, have asked a few questions regarding a Pte T. Askew (1/24th), as i didnt have a clue how to get any info on the guy. I have now got two more names i wouldnt mind getting some info on if anybody could help, (Great job, last time 1879graves). The two individuals are A.) L/CPL N. Fortune 2/24th and B.) PTE J. Ferraby 2/24th. Both men received the South Africa medal, but that is all i know! Kind regards for your help so far. Dicki555 |

Pvt. John Farraby 2770 2 / 24th .
South Africa Medal without Clasp , Long Service and Good conduct Medal 1 / 7 / 85 .
No Clasp means he didnt cross the river into Zululand .
Lce- Corp. N. Fortune 25B / 771 2 / 24th.
Appointed Lce-Corp 11 / 3 /78 , Returned to Pvt , Date unknown , Appointed Lce. Corp 23 / 1 / 79 . South Africa War Medal
with Clasp 77-78-79 .
There was a Pvt. Michael Fortune 25B / 738 2 / 24th . Killed in Action 22 /1 /79 Isandlwana
and a Pvt. James . Fortune 25B/ 459 1 / 24th also killed in action at Isandlwana , Wonder if those three
were related ?. This information from ' The Noble 24th by Norman Holme '.
I see the Ferraby medal is for sale at Liverpool Medals for 450 pds and the N. Fortune Medal also for sale at 1,175 pds .
