" Post, on what was originally the main road from Pietermaritzburg, was the route used by British soldiers to reach garrisons at Ladysmith during the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War, and took this name largely because of the influence and personality of George Curry (who became the local postmaster). Later the road became important to the transport riders and treasure-seekers as it led into the interior, the diamond fields of Kimberley and the gold fields of the Witwatersrand"

Hi all .
According to the ' Field Guide To The War In Zululand and the Defence of Natal ' by Laband & Thompson .
The Colonial Defensive District No 111 .... Curry's Post was Established in 1879 , Colonial , Listed as a Post , Its existing but
No remains of alterations for defence . The lists in this book supplied by National Monuments Council , Durban Office .

Hi All,
This place, Curry's Post, is a very small agricultural centre located a little to the south of Mooi River on the old Howick Road. It's grid loc is 29deg 18' 53.62" S / 30deg 05' 03.45"E.
In the 1880's it was an important staging point and had an inn for travelers, with stabling etc . More importantly it boasted a "watering hole" of note for thirsty travellers.
To get there pass through the centre of Howick, turn right when passing out of the town, on to the Curry's Post road. This tarred road is signposted and is quite scenic. It is on the "Midlands Meander" and there are many tourist attractions along the road as well as much choice of acommodation for travellers and visitors.
In the past it was the main road connecting Howick and Mooi River and was thus the main access into Zululand
