John Harrison-Clark(e) - Changa Changa

Hi All

I'm looking for any info on my Great Grandfather, John Harrison-Clark(e).

He was born in 1860, presumably in Port Elizabeth, South Africa where he lived up until circa 1877 when he joined the Cape Mounted Rifles. He was apparently at the battle of Morosi's Mountain (I am trying to verify this as well)

Much of his life is only alive in stories handed down through families of those who knew him, and clearly there is a lot of fiction mixed in with the fact, so any references, resources etc that would help paint a more accurate picture would be greatly appreciated.

I have recently read "The Land of The Long Grass" by Marina Maxwell which is loosely based on his life - there are a few reference points that I am following up on.

Firstly welcome to the forum.

The only information I can tell you is the following.

There is a Private J Clarke listed in the Cape Mounted Riflemen and was entitled to the 1877-8-9 clasp to his medal. (medal was returned to the Mint)
There is also a Private J Clarke listed in the Cape Mounted Riflemen No. 7 Troop and was entitled to the 1877-8-9 clasp to his medal.

Thanks for the info 1879- any idea where I can start looking to verify if this was him?
