| Have just found a reference for a John Foot born about 1845 joining the 24 Regt/ 1st Battalion in 1860 from the Royal Military Asylum, Chelsea.
Does anyone have knowledge of this John Foot(e).
He also had a brother Andrew Foot(e) born abt 1843 who joined the 47th Regiment in 1858, again from the Royal Military Asylum, Chelsea. |

| Hi Rayden . This may be your man , from the Medal Roll by Forsyth . 2 / 24th Regt . Drum Major , J.P. Foote . 2188 , Entitled to Medal with 77-78-79 Clasp. I then looked through ' The Noble 24th ' by Norman Holme . Basically says the same , but gives his christian name as John .P. Foote , Also states he is entitled to ' Long Service And Good Conduct Medal 1 / 7 / 79. Hope this has been some help . cheers 90th. |

| Thanks both
I do have that information - now frustrated that I can't find anymore. Nothing on UK census (to present) so assume they either died overseas ot stayed overseas.
Anyway off for a holiday in the nest few days (4 weeks in Spain) so will have to leave this till I get back

| Hi All, Another confusing one?? From the Chelsea record it would give a birth date of 1845, and i cannot find any records. John Foot No 2188 2/24 Bandmaster was born circa 1842 in Cerne Abbas Dorset, he attested 10 Aug 1859 to 30 Foot, to 2/24 1 Dec 1869, Final Discharge 7 June 1881 served 21yrs. He was also a Ex Dorset Militia before joining the 30th Regt. He is probably buried on 3 Dec 1918 St James Churchyard Shaftesbury Dorset. Looking at this info from his service papers it is not the same John Foot from Chelsea but there are no other Foot's on either the 1st or 2/24 medal rolls for the Zulu War. Rai Keynshamlighthorse. |
