None of the original buildings survive but the museum is on the site and a close approximation of the hospital. The church is the site of the store room.

1. The rear of the hospital.
2. Front of the hospital
3. Front of the storeroom showing the stone ridge the wall was built on
4. The ridge in front of the cattle kraal
5. Standing with my back to the kraal looking along the line of the mealie bag wall half way along is the biscuit box wall position
6. Opposite view
7. The junction between the front wall and the Biscuit box wall. Gives an idea of just how small this area was.
8. The rear wall facing onto the Oskaberg.

Cheers

Sprinbok. The rock lines, are they mapping out the exact defence lines, or are they just a rough estimate of where they were thought to be. The reason I ask. When they moved the melie bags & and biscuits boxes, did someone map out the defence lines for whatever reason. scratch

Sounds like the regiment in Iraq in '91 from what I've heard.

Whitelocks painting sketched shortly after the Battle shows no defences what's so ever. So I'm guessing the outline of the defences in Sprinkboks photos where taken from Chards map. So as accurate as can be.

Hi Littlehand .
Not to sure what you mean ? , if you look at the Lloyd painting I assume its the one you posted ? . It's been well and truly fortified , notice the wall which extends around the station . Or are you talking about the marked out areas that are present today ?.
Cheers 90th.

The discussion was with reference to the melie bags and biscuit box defences. In Springboks photos the rock outline shows where they would have been. I was trying to show with Whitelocks painting that the melie bags and biscuit boxes were removed shortly after the battle.

Hi Littlehand .
I think todays defences are a guide as I doubt to much that Chard's layout was done to scale . Happy to be corrected .
Cheers 90th.

Hi Littlehand .
I see the Chard layout was done to scale , so you'd like to think that the markers of today are close enough to where they were
on 22 / 23rd Jan 79 . Salute
