Zulu Victory states that it is unlikly any of E or F Coy made it back to camp, they give there source as Raw

Raw says

"The enamy cut them up before they could rally killing then close in among the tents."

How can "close in among the tents" refer to them not making it back to camp ?

Also most of F Coy made it 2 miles down the fugitives trail.

Cheers

The tents were quite spread out, perhaps it means they never got to the centre of the camp where most would have made for, that's where the officers tents was and probably the bulk of the ammuntion.

They mean before they reached the camp

From Ron Lock

Quote :
What happened to Mostyn and Cavayes’ companies is a case in point and one that has received little limelight or discussion. PQ and I have them overtaken and wiped out before they reached the tents.

F Coy fourght there way though the camp, passed over the Saddle and then held a fighting retreat for nearly 2
miles before being surounded.
A Zulu Warrior records there retreat, and Black found around 40 bodies among them Lt Anstey of F Coy.

E Coy fourght back from the firing line then fourght in the Saddle, Black found 70 men of the 24th in the Saddle and
several Zulu record the fight in the Saddle.

Found this from Ron Lock

Ron Lock wrote:
There are, in fact, a number of original sources that confirm many men of Mostyn and Cavaye's companies were killed on, and coming down from, the ridge and that none made it to the final firing line.

Anyone heard of any of these before ?

Essex, Stafford, Nynda, Raw, Vause were all on the spur and none of them mention this happening, i don't think anyone else who was atop the Spur left an account, so who is Ron Lock quoting from ?

Is this not one of those situation which has come up time and time again. Those that escaped only witnessed the events up until they left. What happen after that who knows. People do tend to move about.

Chard

The only people who were on the Spur and survied to leave accounts were

Captain Essex, Captain Stafford, Sergant-Major Nynda, Lt Raw and Lt Vause

Not one of them mentions E or F Coy taking casulties on the Spur, so who is Ron Lock refering to ?

Nydna mentions being mixed up with the redcoats as they retired and Essex saw them reform at the bottom, no
mention of the enenmy being close by anyone.
