There was a soldier who was shot by the British at Rorkes Drift for running away just before the action started. Was this soldier buried in the cemetery at Rorkes Drift with the defenders that stayed and died. Or was he buried along with the Zulu Dead.

An NNC company under the command of Stephenson, leap't over the barricades followed by Stephenson himself and his european NCO's followed. A few of the defenders fired after them killing corporal Anderson.

Corporal Michael Anderson was killed with a head shot. But no one knows who fired the fatal shot.

The chances are, the defenders who fired, probably only meant to frighten them into stopping. Unfortunately Anderson was killed. I wonder why this event was not investigated by the authorities after the Battle. Or was it. Any information welcome.

Dave.

I cannot find anything to suggest that Anderson wasn't buried in the cemetery at Rorkes Drift.

His name appears in the casualty list, which therefore shows him as being one of the defenders. I personally don't agree with this as it was Anderson's intention to leave. He was shot before the Zulu's engaged the British, and therefore should not be included as a casualty of the Battle of Rorkes Drift.

This would have been applauded back then, Dave.
Of all those who lost their lives that day, Anderson would have been at the bottom of the sympathy list!
