Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to the 24th Empty
PostSubject: Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to the 24th   Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to the 24th EmptySat Mar 30, 2013 8:24 pm

Hello Gentlemen. I have a Long Term Service and Good Conduct Medal awarded to: Sergent G. Marlow. #172, 2nd Bn 24thRegt.Tried researching him through Forces-war-records but cannot find anything. I did find some info that I believe may be him. Born in 1817 in Marylebone, England (outside London). It mentioned that he was a Hospital Sgt in the 24th. The Medal appears to be a Victorian 2nd version 1874-1901. Does anyone have a clue where I should research or does anyone have any information on this fellow.
Good to be back on line!

Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to the 24th Empty
PostSubject: Re: Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to the 24th   Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to the 24th EmptySun Mar 31, 2013 4:21 pm

Good Afternoon and Happy Easter.
This document states that Sgt Marlow ATTESTED for the Royal Artillery. Does this mean he inlisted in the Artillery? Then served in Gilbratar and Balaklava? He was a Hospital Sgt? Why would these discharge papers be signed by officers of the 24th and why would he have a Long Tern Service medal from the 24TH? Do you think he transferred to the 24TH?

One more question: Is there a bottom to this document and a second page?

Thank-you for your help. Where can I find this document?
