"Captain Harvey was attached by the Government to the service of the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in the Franco-German war of 1870-71, and was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit. He has

also been awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal Humane Society for saving two lives from drowning when on duty as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General disembarking the 4th Regiment from H.M.S. Tamar at Queenstown

on the night of the 4th August 1874. Served in the operations against Sekukuni in 1878 as Staff Officer for the Transvaal. Served in the Zulu war of 1879 as Staff Officer of No. 5 Column, and afterwards as Brigade Major, 1st Brigade, and Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General in the 1st Division."
