We are all here to communicate and enjoy the various discussions and information on the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Opinions will vary, you will agree and disagree with one another, we will have debates, and so it goes.

Born 6/6/1855 at Flinton, Yorkshire, Enseign 17/11/1866, LT 1/10/1870, Capt 23/1/1879, Hnorary Major 5/4/1892 Mentionned in despatches1879, transfered to army pay department , paymaster, east Lancashire regiment 5/4/1882. Paymaster, Durham Light Infantry. Served in the Kaffir (sic) war 1877-78, in command of the mounted infantry , 24th foot. Served in the AZW 1879, present at Gingindhlovuu. Served in the sudan 1885, and with the sudan frontier field force 1885-86. South africa medal with clasp 1877-8-9; Egypt medal with clasp; Khedive's bronze star.

Try again - the details above are for William Sugden not Spring. Incidentally, Spring's father is commemorated on the Mutiny Memorial outside the Law Courts in Tralee, Co Kerry. |

Sorry at all. In the book sugden is just above Spring. SPRINg born 6/6/1855 at Peshawar, India, son of the late Captain F. Spring, 24th foot, killed at Jhelum on 7/7/1857. Sub -Lt 30/04/1873, LT 30/04/1875; Captain 1/01/1881. Died on 13/06/1886 at 11 Royal Parade, Harrogate. Buried at Grove Road Cemetery, Harrogate, Yorkshire. Served in South africa 17/11/1875-2/10/1879. Served in the Kaffir war 1877-78 on detachment at St John's River throughout the campaig.
