| There appears to have been a confrontation between Major Dunbar & Lord Chelmsford with regards to the Defense of the camp at Isandlwana.
Any information appricated. |

| Smith Dorrien quotes a conversation with a staff office, possibly Dunbar, complaining about the camp location. But I don't recollect a direct confrontation between Chelmsford and Dunbar. Let us in on the secret LH.

| Littlehand / xhosa I'm sure I've posted this a long time ago , I dont think it was LC , I think Crealock had a go at Dunbar , who was showing some concern on the poor camping site that was picked earlier in the invasion. It got to the point I think Dunbar even offered his resignation ! , it was LC who talked him out of it If I remember it correctly . 90th |

| 90th Yep remember that one, Crealock basically accusing Dunbar of cowardice, that was on the Bashee camp while building the crossing.

| Hi Springy . Agreed , seems as if there is a tad more speculation in the opening post , unless of course Littlehand has some primary source evidence to back up this claim ? . I cant remember ever reading of a confrontation between Dunbar & LC. Happy to be corrected . 90th |

Cheers ...and a confrontation in the Isandhlwana camp with an "officer of the staff" (not named), about the piquet. Source (from memory): "Historical records of the 24th from its formation ..." by Paton, Glennie... Cheers. Frédéric |

Steve Hi Rusteze, Yes! There are many books and essays on the subject: For example: -"the staff officer was apparently CLERY, and the field officer Dunbar (...)". Source:"Zulu Rising" by Ian Knight (p.256). -"the field officer was evidently Dunbar" Source : "Isandlwana: Laagering and the Dunbar factor" by Adrian Greaves (essay). But the primary source is " historical records of the 24th regiment..." Cheers Frédéric Cheers. Frédéric |
