This new work from Ken is a must have addition to the library. It is in essence a tourist guide to the battlefields plus a lot more. Maps, Photos, where they are, what happened, how they look now: superbly presented and not just confined to the major areas. The smaller incidents are equally well covered with GPS references to aid in their location. Having spent a hell of a lot of time cruising around trying to find some of these sites my only criticism of Ken is why the hell didn't you do this earlier.
Having just bought a similar publication from Nicki Von Der Heyde I can bit compare. Nicki's book is broader in its scope taking in the Anglo Boer war and a bigger Geographical area but lacks the coverage of the AZ as a result. Ive bought both but the first one I will reach for will be Ken Gillings.

Nice one Ken

I have asked 30 Degrees South to call on Charles Aikenhead at Rorke's Drift Hotel (he in fact spoke to me about it when I stayed at the hotel in December), and will follow up. I sincerely appreciate your suggestions and comments and have forwarded them to the Publisher. Regards, Ken

Hi Ken.
Would love to tell you my thoughts on your book. The problem is that, Amazon keep putting the date back. I put my order in, in December. It's a shame, because I'm sure you must of lost sales because of this. They now tell me that your book will be with me at the end of March. Not so sure about that!

Ken,

For your information Amazon.co.uk still cannot give a delivery date and are offering an opt-out option to those who have expressed an interest.

You might want to wake your publishers up to this fact.

I take a review copy if they want?

Hi All,
For all of you battling with Amazon's shoddy service, try Kalahari.com.
I had a good experience with Kalahari, ordering on 03/2, courier delivery to my door, was on 14/02.

Barry,

Looking at their home page it looks just like Amazon by another name.

The problem is as it is South African based there are bound to additional costs involved.

Hi JY.
Delivery charges were R35 which incurred a total charge of R260. Charges for delivery to the UK would at least double, so if there is no urgency, one must just wait out this supply glitch.
I am sure that Ken will have taken up the issues with the parties concerned.

Hi Ken

Amazon are saying that your book is now unavailable! Can you tell me what's going on?

Thanks

Try Kalahari. Tad more expensive but great service. Currently R225.

Cheers

Warrion2, according to Chris Cocks of 30 Degrees South Publishers, the book is unlikely to reach the UK for another 3 months of so. From what Springbok has indicated, Kalahari's price is extremely fair by all appearances.

Ken,

The publishers appear to have let you down, what is the cause of a three month delay of orders reaching the U.K.? I ordered your book in December 2013 from Amazon.co.uk at the cost of £14.95.

If I were to order it through Kalahari it would cost R.225, plus the price of postage from S.A. as Barry indicates above R.70, plus the chance of being hit with import duties by the Customs, which would put it over and above the U.K. price.

I note that you politely ducked the review copy question I posed above.

Regards,

John Y.

Good afternoon John.
According to the Publisher, their overseas agent is collating orders and to save costs, a bulk shipment will be despatched in due course.
I'm afraid I overlooked your offer to review; I'll raise it with 30 Degrees South

Ken
Thanks for the reply. I would seriously consider changing publishers, if that's the case. Your sales would've suffered considerably because of this. But, I'll still wait for your book!
Cheers

The same situation with Keith Smiths new book, Pen and Sword Books advertised it, I bought, now they can only supply in May/June. Take solace Ken, even the Aussies and English cock up on occasion!

Ken,

This today from Amazon:

We're still trying to obtain the following item[s] you ordered on December 10 2013.

Gillings, Ken "Discovering the Battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu War"

We're awaiting a revised estimate from our supplier, and will email you as soon as we receive this information.

If you'd prefer to cancel the item, please visit Your Account on the link below.

No contact from your publishers either so they obviously don't want a peer review.

John Y.

John, this can be arranged, believe it or not. I-GO Books are marketing DTBOTAZW locally and it is still available from 30 Degrees South Publishers via their website. Orders are evidently despatched from Pinetown Printers' warehouse. I signed several copies a few weeks ago, and was told that if such a stipulation was made on the order, their representative in Pinetown ("Michael") would ensure that it happens. Regards, Ken
