Zulu Dawn Film Lt. Col. Pulleine: Lord Chelmsford assures us that there is no way the Zulu can get around us without our knowing. Col. Durnford: Zulu generals have a nasty habit of doing the unexpected. It might be wise to picket the hills.

I spent some time at the National Archives this week looking at the maps produced in preparation for Chelmsford's second invasion of Zululand. There are some interesting sketches included which might be of interest. This one is on a map of the road from the Tugela River to Fort Chelmsford on the Inyezane. It is dated 16 July 1879 and shows John Dunn's houses and laager. The maps are included in a huge folder which also covers the Afghan War and the China War.
