very interesting - the last defenders I have seen was sold by Stanley Gibbons at £35k having been bought at auction for £27k, Given the crazy pricing for SAGS atm along with the new deep pocket investor on the scene - I would expect to see a hammer price north of £30k.

I mentioned the auction in passing to Mrs D and potential pricing .
She said she would leave me if I bid on the medal ..

Gonna miss that woman!!

See Kris Wheatley volume 3 for his biog. It is so frustrating that he is probably in the famous picture on the grassy bank but we do not know what he looked like.

I've noticed the Medal is up for Auction , tend to agree with the consensus that it will be higher than thought , although I know an Isandlwana Casualty was sold in the last fortnight for only 7K ! , they , or at least some , were from memory 8.5 and closer to 9 k , nearly a year or so ago ! .

"Private Bromwich’s elder brother, Charles, also fought at the battle."

Didn't know that!!!! See something new.

But not on the Roll of those present at Rorke's Drift scratch

Dave
There is a lot of evidence saying Charles wasn't at RD with his brother , read England's Sons' p73 by JW . Charles was at RD at some stage , but no supporting HARD evidence that he was there on the 22 - 23rd Jan .
