| This is a group photograph of the August 1873 Hythe School of Musketry class. I will not patronize you by asking you to identify the 24 Regiment participant in this class as it would not be much of a challenge---of course, it is Lt. Charles D'Aguilar Pope with his dog sitting center just behind the first seated row. However, according to what I have been able to determine, there is only one other Zulu War veteran in this group. Can you name him and find him in the class photo? (Isandula Collection) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Good shooting, Xhosa2000, but you're a bit off target but getting close. |

| Clue #1--He's not sitting. Clue #2--Look like he's shooting us the finger, but he's not.

| RB,
That's so you 'shooting the finger'.
Either Gordon or Alexander of the 2nd/21st.

| Yes, JB, it looks like his shooting finger, but you have the wrong guy in the 2/21st. |

| Lt. Justice 2/21? But I am cheating from a list of those at the School of Musketry in August 1873. There was another AZW veteran present on the course, Lt H H Parr of the 13th, but I don't think he is in the picture.

| Bingo!!!! Steve, you've nailed him---Lt. A.J. Justice, 2/21st Royal Scots, standing top, far left at the end, I believe. Well done!!! I checked the Mac & Shad with the JY index and cannot find Lt. H.H.Parr listed as being in the ZW, though, he well may have been. There is a list of participants photographed underneath the group pic for the August 1873 Musketry Class, and this is how I determined Justice was an Anglo-Zulu War vet. |

| Thanks Isandula. I had jumped to the conclusion, probably quite wrongly, that H H Parr was Henry Hallam Parr - right regiment though and he probably was a Lt. in 1873.

| Steve,
Only one H. H. Parr in the Army List, Henry Hallam Parr.
RB,
He isn't in Mac' & Shad', hence why he doesn't make it to the index!

| Ah, thanks John. Any small chance it might be him end of back row on the far right? Or is the headgear wrong for the13th?

| Steve, No that's a cavalry officer. The 13th's badge was a Mural Crown superscribed Jellalabad above a strung horn, with 13 in the centre of strings. Here's an out of focus image: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]13th PALI officer, Hythe 1878. (John Young Collection.John Y. |

| Wouldn't this be Henry Hallam Parr, 13th, seated just above Charlie Pope? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Me thinks matches up quite well with this photo of Frere's staff, with Parr seated far left. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
