Born 9/9/1856 at Hatton, near Warrington, Cheshire, the son of Thomas and Ellen Taylor, nee Andrews (Census Return dated 1891, Regimental Archive). Enlisted 16/11/1876. Attested at Brecon 25/11/1876. Posted to 2nd Bn 24th Foot. Served in South Africa, Gibraltar and India. Home 27/1/1883. Date of discharge not traced. Resided at St. George's Cottages, Weston, Runcorn, Cheshire. Employed at Weston Quarry. Married 29/12/1884, Lucy Maddock at Daresbury, Cheshire and had issue, seven children: Sarah, born 1886; Thomas, born 1887; Florence Louisa, born 8/8/1889; John Percy, born 1892; Margaret Elizabeth, born 23/12/1894; Elsie Maude, born 28/9/1898; Lucy Lillian, born 1901 {marriage certificate, Regimental Archive) .On the occasion of the Royal visit 1925 he, together with Thomas Moffat, a comrade from Rorke's Drift, was introduced to the King. Died of Bronchitis and Heart Failure at 5 St. John's Cottages, Runcorn, Cheshire 17/4/1926 {death certificate, Regimental Archive). Buried in grave 363, section 5, Runcorn Cemetery 22/4/1926.
