Out of curiosity. Did the British bring back any of the friendly natives that fought on the British side? Back to England. And did any go on to fight along side the British in other parts of the world? After the Zulu War had ended.

hi littlehand.
I remember reading about a zulu boy who got to the firing trench at gingindlovu and was held down by a british soldier ,
I believe he went on to serve in the British Navy. I think its a true story the boys name in the book was " Jabalani" .
Someone will correct me if I am wrong . :) .

Hi
Captain A F Creagh 80th Regt brought back a Zulu named Jack, he appears on the 1881 census for the regimental barracks at Whittington Staffordshire, however he does not appear on any others,
I have also heard the story that there is a Zulu who fought in the war buried in a Cardiff Cemetery,
having looked into this a zulu was buried in cardiff but he died upon a ship in the habour in the 1920/30's
A bit off topic a sioux warrior LONE WOLF who was AT THE BATTLE OF THE LITTLE BIGHORN and fought against Custer was buried at Brompton Cemetery Chelsea London, he was with Buffalo Bills Wild West Show, his body was recently returned to the Sioux Nation in America.
A Medal of Honour Winner who fought with Reno at the Big Horn is buried in a Brighton Cemetery.
regards rai.

Hi all,
Henry Holden 7th US Cavalry died 1905 in Brighton,
He is buried in Brighton and Preston Cemetery near the Hartington Road Entrance, it is a newish white marble with black lettering near the brow of the hill very near the main pathway.
Also Lone Wolf's grave is still marked in Brompton Cemetery.

hi littlehand .
Thanks very much , I see you have learnt from graves :lol!: . Very quick work indeed ,
well done. :) .

This from " Men with Custer " HOLDEN HENRY ( JAMES HURD )

" Awarded Medal of Honour Oct 5th 1878 , " Brought up ammunition under a galling fire from the enemy "
in the Little Big Horn fight . The medal was presented at a dress parade at Fort Mchenry on April 10th 1879.

Resided at 36 White Hawk Rd Brighton , Recieved a pension of $ 24 a month from 1882. He died at a reported
age of 69 on Dec 14th 1905 in East Brighton . Buried on 19th Dec in grave 425, Brighton and Preston Cemetery.
Hartington Rd. Brighton . His widow ( 2nd wife ) recieved a pension of $ 30 a month from Feb 25th 1924, increased
to $ 40 a month on 4th June 1928, She died in 1938. Many other service details and private details in the book which
arent really relevent . If anyone is interested in the Little Big Horn saga , this book lists all the troops in Custer"s 7th
cavalry , service records , etc etc , Basically a American version of " The Noble 24th ". MIne is paperback 407 pages.
The ISBN is 1892258056. Many , Many items of info concerning the men of the 7th Cavalry listed on their books at the
time of the massacre. And those who survived and those who were lucky enough to have not been there.
cheers 90th.

Thanks 90th. But I'm a long way off from 1879Graves. But he has shown me how interesting it is seeking out Graves, that have been long forgotten.

And its amazing what else you find out for instance, I was not aware that Lone Wolf had been bury in Bromton cemetary. But I do now.
