I am now the proud owner of the Zulu Frontiersman. I have never brought a book, published by the authors Ron Lock and Peter Quantrill.
But after reading about these two on this forum I decided to buy one. The front cover gives the impression its going to be a very good and interesting book.

When it comes to writing books on the Zulu War you won’t go far wrong with any books published by Ron and Peter. There books are packed with factual information based on years of research.

From: pen-and-sword

It was said of George Dennison that he had seen more active service in southern Africa than any other living man.

In Zulu Frontiersman, Dennison recounts his remarkable exploits in rich and lively prose. Originally published in 1904 in abridged form (under the title A Fight to the Finish) his memoirs have now been expertly reworked by Ron Lock and Peter Quantrill in order to reinstate some of the fascinating details missing from the earlier published account, including for example Dennison's involvement in and dramatic escape from the battle of Hlobane.

Enjoy

Regards
Pete.

Very good choice of book, I have a copy. And yes, any of the books by the authors mentioned is worth having.

Let us know what you think. ?

24th.
I would highly recommend any if not all of the books by Kris Wheatley.
(Legacy Hero’s of Rorke’s Drift) these books are based on Genealogy research. Telling the stories of some of the soldiers that took part in the defence of Rorke’s Drift 22nd / 23rd Jan 1879.

Excellent Book. The two authors Ron Lock and Peter Quantrill are certainly the best in their field.
Anyone who tells you different is not interested in the AZW. I do believe one of them was dogged with ill health for a while, but has still managed to maintain a active roll in his dedication to this interesting subject.

Another one of their books I recently acquired is Zulu Victory The Epic of Isandlwana and the Cover-up, now that’s the book you want to read, made for discussion forums.
Eighteen months of research, followed up by numerous visits to the battlefield.

Cheers

Companion to the Anglo-Zulu War (Ian Knight) Brilliant Book cover just about everything.

The Noble 24th (Norman Holme) Biographical Record of the 24th Regiment. This must have taken some research. (Total Pages 384.) Very similar to J. Young’s book (They fell like stones) But more in-depth and lots more detail.

Sas1
I have seen those books in my local book shop, bit pricey.
You mentioned (They fell like stones) I saw that book at a local book fair a few weeks ago, which I could have had for 20p but there were some pages missing.

Zulu Frontiersman set me back £19.95p and I have nearly finished it, worth every penny.

They Fell Like Stones, was the first book I brought, and actually contributed to my interest in this subject.

I’m not sure on publication dates, but I do believe They Fell Like Stones was the first book to list the names and other facts of those that took part in the AZW. So you could say this book lead the way for the others of similarity.

I all ready have a copy, but S.D if your giving a copy away I will P/M my address to you.

Regards

Pete.

So are we expecting a book review from your good wife, when she has read it.

And may I ask how much the book costs.

I’m always a bit careful when buying books. Like to know if I’m getting value for money.

Tom would be interested in the Medal and enlistment papers. I believe he is writing a book on the History of the Naval Brigades, so he his looking for all types of documentation from the brigade troops of those day.
