hi oh2.
Yes it is true , here are the details as written by Hitch including his own spelling . This from ' Rorke's Drift By Those Who Were There ' by Jones and Stevenson.......

' About this time we was pressed very much Bromhead was using his revolver with deadly aime , they seemed determined to
move Bromhead and myself , we were so buissey that one had got inside and was in the act of assygien Bromhead , Bromhead
not knowing he was , I put my rifel on him knowing at the same time it was empty , Instead of him delivering the assygie which no
doubt would have been faitle , he dodge down and hoped out of the largur. Again this was just before they tryed to fire the other
building they seemed to me as , if they made up their minds to take Rorkes drift with this rush ,they rushed up madley not with
standing the heavy loss they had all ready suffered it was in this struggle that I was shot ' . He goes on to describe his shooting .
cheers 90th. Idea

90th. Once again, thanks very much for the informative reply.

It then says that "Lieutenant Bromhead, who would later return the favour." Any account on this..?

Thanks in advance...

hi oh2.
This from Hitch in Rorke's Drift by Those Who Were There by Jones and Stevenson.
' We were both very busy with zulus in front when one of the niggers managed to pass us and get inside. I knew he was there
I was just about to shoot down a zulu in front when the zulu inside shot me through the right shoulder , carrying away the Scapula.
Turning around quickly , Bromhead at once shot down the man who had wounded me ' . I think that is ' Returning the favour '
cheers 90th..
