In Swati the prefix for son of becomes wa rather than the iZulu ka.

So it is Prince Mbilini waMswati, rather kaMswati, I learnt the hard way by having pointed out to me by his great-niece back in 1991, when in Swaziland, at which time it was too late to change the proofs of my book.

I have to point out that it is Prince Dabulamanzi kaMpande, rather than kaMapande otherwise my adopted brother will chastise me for not defending the family name. Nor did he hold any command appointment at iSandlwana, save for that of being an officer in the uDloko ibutho. His reason for being there - according to his family oral tradition - was to act as "the eyes and ears of his brother" King Cetshwayo kaMpande.

The command of the Zulu reserve which cut the line of retreat to Rorke's Drift was held by Zibhebhu kaMaphitha. H. C. Lugg in Historic Natal and Zululand, published 1948 declares: At Sandhlwana he led the pursuit to Fugitive's Drift and is reputed to have shot both Melville and Coghill. (Original spellings and errors retained.)

The command of the Zulu reserve only devolved to Prince Dabulamanzi after Zibhebhu crossed the Mzinyathi to raid into Natal for his own benefit and glory. Although I recall hearing an account that has Zibhebhu as being wounded whilst harrying the survivors along the Fugitives' Trail.
