| Hi all just want to clear it up. I have heard people say that Melvile lost the chamber to his revolver and he stated this to Brickhill as they rode away from Isandlwana. But when i actualy read it it stated " Have you seen anything of my sword back their." Just wondering if either was found or anyone can clear up which one he lost.

| I think this has been discussion before. And the sword never was found. Probably carried away by the Zulu. Wonder what that would be worth if it came to light. |

| Unless the Zulus who took them carried them to battle and got killed then the swords where taken by the British as booty. I remember soemthing of Portoues sword being reconized and retured to his family after it was found on a dead Zulu cant remeber where i read it. Regards |

| Just read that Coghills sword rests next to the Queens Colours in breacon cathedral.
Was it found on his body?
If not where was it found?
Cheers DB14 |

| I would imagine that Coghill's sword would, if DB14's theory of it being with the colours in the cathedral is correct, would probably have been found on his person. I say this because I would think that if it was captured by the Zulus, it would either been defaced, or kept as a battle trophy. I would therefore ask DB14 to state the condition of the sword when it was found, and then we can get a better idea of exactly what happened to it. |

| Hi Mr Vereker
The sword belongs to Nevile Coghill VC
I do not know what condition it is in but it is next to the Queens colour.
Hopefully another member may know a little more then i do on how it came to rest their because as far as i know most people think that he had his sword on him when he died.
Cheers DB14 |

| "On Lieutenant Coghill's body were found his diamond ring, a small Zulu bangle that he used to wear, and his boots and spurs, — everything else had been taken. The party who discovered their bodies also found the colors which they had died to save, among the bowlders in the river" |
