| Hi 45Govt. As you are probably aware this book isnt cheap , there are two books in the Brenthurst collection that I'm aware of , this one ' Zululand At War ' and ' Invasion Of Zululand ' . I have both , but have only read ' Zululand at War ' . Zululand at war is basically a book featuring Letters written by many officers of the Zulu war during the years 1878 - 1879 , before and during the war from Sth Africa to Sir Archibald Alison who was from 1878 - 82 head of army intelligence department in England . It doesnt really go into background detail on the war or battles , that isnt what its about . It's all about the letters from those who were there , speaking their mind etc etc . I think it's a wonderful insight into some of the the main players who were on the command staff etc . 300 pages , has many Illustrations , 4 maps . Letters from Clery , Both Crealock's , Wood , Harvey , Russell , James , Robinson , Barrow , and others , also 7 letters from the Duke Of Cambridge to Frere , 3 from Queen Victoria to Lady Frere , and 3 from Edward - Prince Of Wales to Lady Frere & B. Frere . 90th

| hiya 45govt,90th. 90th is right! both are required for the serious collector.there is a third book in the series ' vanity fair in Southern Africa '. it is full of caricatures of many of the main player's in the AZW and much more, the caricatures were created by Leslie Ward under the nom de plume of spy..nice to have the ' trilogy ' so to speak and its a lot cheaper than the other two. cheers xhosa |

| Thank You guys,
It sounds similar to Emery's The Red Soldier, but more from the officers.
As 90th stated it is pricey, so I will have to think about, and then of course I would need to look for the others in the series!
Thanks again for the input |

| Hi Don . I was lucky enough to get my two Clarke books at very reasonable prices , from memory just over 60 quid each ! , postage did push the prices somewhat . I've never seen them anywhere near that price again , I was on the right site at the right time . Admin has posted one that's listed on ebay at 117 quid which is as cheap as I've seen it , with the exception of mine . Might be a good idea to pounce , then again postage wont be cheap , mine did cost 30 USD to get it from the USA . Cheers Gary. |

| Don If your lucky you could pick it up at the auction for 70 US, that's pretty good. The last one auctioned went for 200 US.

| Is Clarks book more accurate that other books. Or does it just contain what we already know. |

| Hi Chard Its a really important source book. It contains letters from Clery et al. So while just re enforcing the general knowledge it does give tremendous insight into the squabbles and what went on behind the scenes. I use it a lot.
