New Access Road Isandlwana Empty
PostSubject: New Access Road Isandlwana   New Access Road Isandlwana EmptyWed Jan 06, 2016 8:24 pm

There is, apparently, a plan to construct a new section of access road between RD and Isandlwana. The attached is a heritage impact assessment published in June 2015 with quite a few maps and locations of burials etc (not battle burials I think). But the official survey maps of the area are quite hard to come by so may be useful to members.

New Access Road Isandlwana Empty
PostSubject: Re: New Access Road Isandlwana   New Access Road Isandlwana EmptyThu Jan 07, 2016 5:27 am

Hi Steve
Its an access to a local village area to the North West of iSandlwana. It will create a 'T' junction between the Manzimyama and the back of the mountain and curve around the bottom of the Spur to the North. It wont impact on the battlefield or its environs at all, that areas more under pressure from the increasing urban sprawl and the use of the battlefield as a short cut between two of the villages.
I have no doubt the Shabalala family will be watching very closely as it skirts their traditional burial ground.

Cheers
