Left 1872 ; joined Army Service Corps 1872 ; Zulu War, defence of Ekowe (despatches, Medal with clasp) 1880; Transvaal Campaign^, defense of Pretoria 1881; Soudan Expedition (medal with clasp, Khedive's star) 1885; Assist. Commissary-Gen. 1885, Major 1888; D.A.A.G., S.£. District 1894, Thames District 1898. unmarried, at Rochester, Died 11 Dec., 1898, from an hunting accident in the field."

To be pedantic, the ASC was created in 1869 for the "other ranks" of the Military Train. The officers (and if he went to Winchester College I imagine he was one) amalgamated into the Control Department, which in 1875 was split between the Commissariat, the Transport Department and the Ordnance Store Department. So I guess in the AZW he wasn't in the ASC.
