Latest acquisition for the map collection. Stanford's superb "British South Africa" from a little after the AZW. The owner went on to become the most controversial British general of the 20th century - it speaks not so much of South Africa but the Somme.

This is the day to remember the impact of Haig. First day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916 - 57,000 British casualties by midnight tonight.
