| Here is an interesting story of a gentleman who claims that while in the merchant marine he became involved in the Zulu War, and was present when the Prince Imperial was killed. Does anyone have any idea who he was?

| hi petty officer tom I cant tell who your man may be exactly, but the prince's escort were these men, LT CAREY, SGT WILLIS, CPL GRUBB and TPRS ABEL, ROGERS ( BOTH KILLED) COCHRANE and LE TOCQ ( channel islander who spoke french), and 1 zulu scout ( also killed). Some NATAL NATIVE HORSE were also to go but went to the wrong tent and missed the patrol. LE TOCQ says he rode past the prince giving him encouragement ( In French) as the prince was trying to mount his horse PERCY. This is taken from IAN KNIGHT'S " BRAVE MENS BLOOD " pages 173-175. I have read the transcripts of all those on the patrol but not sure where, i think the admin has a book on this subject so he may be able to post the transcripts of the hearing. cheers 90th. |
