Request from Pascal Empty
PostSubject: Request from Pascal   Request from Pascal EmptySun Sep 11, 2016 4:48 pm

Many of you will recall Pascal, a French devotee of this forum in the past. He is a model-maker and figure painter. He has asked me to post this on the forum. If anyone can assist, pm me and I'll send you his e-mail address.
Thanks
Julian

Does anyone have a drawing or photo of an attacking Zulu with isiJula in right hand and holding in his left hand his shield, knobkerrie and iKlwa. How does he manage to hold all that in one grip? From an illustration or accurate description I can make a model.

I've told him I believe the leather shield-strap went over the left wrist and the iWisa and iKlwa were held in the left hand but he thinks that would not be possible. Any offers?

I have no problem with what you say Julian..it was second nature to
hold their weapons in that fashion, just think of the diameter of the
individual weapon..the hand could easily accommodate a few of those.

Hey Pascal..stay lucky. cheers xhosa

The History of War Magazine, the latest issue includes a 10 page article
on the AZW. nothing earth shattering but nicely laid out with some very
good illustrations. on sale now.

Below a detail from the battle showing a Zulu warrior engaged, not what Pascal want's exactly
but i seem to recall their are sketches showing his requirements in some of the earlier soft
back publications..

Posed, but demonstrates it is clearly possible to hold shield and weapons in same hand.
