We are all here to communicate and enjoy the various discussions and information on the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Opinions will vary, you will agree and disagree with one another, we will have debates, and so it goes.

First Appointment - Sub-Lieutenant - Ceylon Rifle Regiment - 30th December 1871
Sub-Lieutenant (Half Pay) - 1st June 1873
Sub-Lieutenant - 56th Regiment - 5th July 1873
Sub-Lieutenant - 27th Regiment - 26th July 1873
Lieutenant - 27th Regiment - 30th December 1873
Captain - Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (1st Battalion) - 18th October 1879
Special Service, South Africa - 1st November 1878 to 10th October 1879
South African War - 1879 - Zulu Campaign. Medal with clasp.

Sale 3016 Lot 103
South Africa 1877-79, one clasp, 1879 (Lieut. J.C. Bayly, 27th Foot.), last letter of name officially corrected, nearly extremely fine, and a unique medal and clasp to the 27th Foot.
Estimate £ 700-800
Captain John Cave Bayly entered the 27th Foot as Lieutenant, 1873; served during the Zulu War of 1879 on 'Special Service' with transportation, advanced to Captain later in 1879 and became employed in the Remount Establishment.
