Zulu War Medal Empty
PostSubject: Zulu War Medal   Zulu War Medal EmptySat Apr 03, 2021 6:22 pm

I have a Zulu War medal with 1877-78-79 clasp awarded to 258 Pvt. B. Pile 1/24th Foot. I know that he had transferred to the army reserve by 1880. Is there any available information regarding combat experience in South Africa? Thanks

First name - Benjamin
Enlisted at Devizes in Wiltshire on 5.6.1874  Number 25B/258.
Most likely with either D or G Company 1/24th at the time of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift - based at Helpmekaar.
Later in the advance up to Ulundi - but not actually involved in this battle.
Doubtful that he ever fired his Rifle in 1879.
