I have read so many descriptions of the Zulu during the Zulu War, many saying how athletic they looked. But looking at these Zulu Prisoners I’m not sure they were. However I’m not sure how long these Zulu’s had been kept as prisoners and what conditions they were kept in. But they look in pretty poor condition wouldn’t you say.

Would they be from the 24th Regiment. (The Soldiers) Is there any information with the photo. Doe's look like they have a rough time. Still with Isandlwana in mind, what did they expect. A silver services three course meal.

Thanks for your reply CTSG. But I cannot see wrist restrains on any of them.

The Photo does give a good refection of the uniform worn by the British during the Zulu War.

hi all.

I have seen this photo a few times , In I. Knights Companion To The Zulu War the caption reads as follows.

" Zulu prisoners under guard by men of the Buffs ( 2 / 3rd Regt ) at the Lower Tugela in the Aftermath of the
kwaGinginlovu Campaign ".
cheers 90th.

You would be really suprised how athletic they are when they are running behind you with a rather large spear or knobkerrie.
