"NAVAL CHAPLAIN'S DEATH. The death occurred at Seaford on Sunday of Rev. J. Harcourt Berry, formerly a naval chaplain at the age of 74. He served in the Active during the Old Colony and Zulu wars, and was chaplain and naval instructor in the Superb during the Egyptian war. Subsequently he was chaplain of the training ships Impregnable and Lion, at Devonport; of the Britannia, Dartmouth; the Naval Barracks Devonport, Gunnery School, and the Royal Marine Depot. Deal. Mr. Berry was chaplain of the Fleet and inspector of naval schools from 1899 1901, and was naval chaplain to King Edward and King George."

John Harcourt Berry (1849- 1923) was a Church of England priest and Royal Navy chaplain. He was the Chaplain of the Fleet, serving from 1899 to 1901.
Berry was educated at Christ Church, Oxford. He was ordained deacon in 1874 and priest in 1875 and began his ecclesiastical career with a curacy at Preston-on-Stour. He served with the Navy from 1876 to 1901.
