Whilst browsing through the newspaper archives, I happened upon this interesting little article wherein a tenor, one Thomas Slack, was interviewed about his time in South Africa - the article appeared in the Mansfield Reporter of 20 October 1893. As you can see it is claimed that the Chief produced a Zulu War medal. Has anyone any idea of who he was?

Hi Rory.

Teteleku, Mounted Natives - Phumuza people in the colonial defence district. Irregular Mounted Horse, mostly garrisoned Defensive posts, "ie" Helpakaar, Fort Melvil.

If you go onto the search engine you will find a link of interest, already posted.
