A very nice find Idea

but do not believe everything you read in the newspapers :lol!:

His real name was George Eve. He was born in the parish of Dorking, Surrey. He enlisted at Reading on 18th April 1872. He was 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a fair complexion and blue eyes. His trade was that of a labourer. It is not known when he joined the Regiment. He deserted in May 1884.

Hi All,
The 1920 US census gives George and Mary Attride living in Los Angeles at there daughter's Mabel, Mabel was born in 1887 New York. The 1930 census give them living Riverside California with daughter Alice born 1884 Northern Ireland. From this they left the UK between 1884 and 1887.
George Attride dies in 1940 and is buried in grave R-1-194-2 Olivewood Cemetery Riverside California, Mary dies in 1943 and is buried in the next grave R-1-194-3, a picture of her grave is on the findagrave website, also their son George Raivet Attride is also buried at Olivewood.
