Hi all, I have the said medal to Pte. H. Barber with 1879 clasp. I can find him on the medal rolls, however I can't even find the poor chaps first name, nor his enlistment nor discharge papers. Can anyone assist with pointing me in the right direction to help locate any of his service records?

Many thanks,

Grant

He was Army Service Corps Transport.
Looks like his first name was Henry

Could this also be him later in life

Cambridge Daily News - Tuesday 21 April 1903

There was also an Private 1136 A. Barber Army Service Corps Ordnance SAGS medal No clasp.
Wonder if he was a relation.

I found this interesting but is probably not linked. A South African aside 1st Transvaal Rebellion :-

Nottingham Journal - Monday 07 March 1881
There is no private H Barber in the 3/60th 1879 SAGS medal rolls
Food for thought

Hi Kate,

Thank you very much for the searching and the information you have found. Do you think that the "Hy" is definitely short for Henry? So I assume (a dangerous thing) that the "T" preceding his service number 2393 indicates service in the Transport area of the Army Service Corps?

Kind regards,
Grant

Hi Grant
Yes the ' T ' stands for transport , that's where Henry is listed on the Medal Roll . Do you have the medal roll ? .
