Ntshingwayo birth date

Most sources state circa 1809 as the year kaMahole was born, but the "Historical Dictionary of the Zulu Wars" gives 1823. Which option do you think is more likely to be true?

A late friend of mine was a descendant of Ntshingwayo kaMahole of the Khosa clan. He would always state that his forebear was about seventy years of age at the time of the Zulu War.
