Hornby, Cecil Lumsden (Druries), son of W. H. Hornby, Esq., M.P., Blackburn. Cricket XL 1862-3; left 1863 2 . Served in Canadian Rifles, 1867-70; joined 19th Regt. 1870; transferred to 58th Regt. 1871 ; retired as Capt. 1883 ; served in Zulu War, 1879 (medal and clasp), and in Boer War, 1881 (present at Laing's Nek and Majuba Hill). DIED Feb. 27th, 1896.

"Capt. Cecil Lumsden Hornby48,381 was born on 25 July 1843 at Raikes Hall in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.537 Sometime Capt., 58th Regt. Educated at Harrow. Played cricket for Lancs. C.C.C. Served with Canadian Rifles, 1867-70. Joined 19th Regt., 1870. Transfd. to 58th Regt., 1871. Served in Zulu War. 1879 (Medal with Clasp) and in Boer War, 1881. Present at engagements at Laing's Neck and Majuba Hill. Retired as Capt., 1883.
Capt. Cecil Lumsden Hornby and Edith Marion Cramer-Roberts were married on 13 June 1889. Edith Marion Cramer-Roberts, daughter of Frederick Ponsonby Cramer-Roberts, was born about 1850 in Of Bombay, Northern India.. Date guessed from husband's birth date. She died on 2 May 1906 at the age of 56".

Captain Hornby took part with the regt in the advance of Newdigate's Divis on Ulundi ; remained on detachment at Fort Evelyn from the date of it's construction in June until the conclusion of the war . 90th
