Thanks Admin for posting the photo of the rock found near the Lüneburg cemetry. There are some more names and initials on the rock, but those are not as clear as Nelsons. Would be interesting to know what unit M. Nelson belonged to. We know that the 80th under Tucker spend some time at Lüneburg, the Kaffrarian Vanguard and a Coy of the 90th. Buller and his men also did regular patrols in the area from Khambula. Have a look at the roll call lists, please!

I have had a look on the medal Roll and found the following
Trooper M Nelson, Frontier Light Horse
He is the only M Nelson I could find.
Johann
What other name / names are on the rock?

hi Graves / Johann. I also had a look through the Rolls but only the 80th , 90th and Kaffrarian lists , no M. Nelson , but graves your man from the Frontier Light Horse was no doubt with Buller and is more than likely our man . cheers 90th.

That was quick! Does make sense, indeed! I need to do some work on the rock with a magnifying glass and try to make out some more names. There are also some digits that seem to make out a date, but not complete. I shall try to send some more photos.

Hi Johann
I can only find three with the surname Kelley in the way that you have spelt it.
Private E Kelley, 58th Ordinary Seaman W Kelley, Royal Navy Trooper J F Kelley, 3rd Cape Mounted Yeomanry
