Some where in the dim receses of my mind there lurks a thought that there was a "Buffalo Bill' type circus act with some zulus? One for the researchers to look for.

Don't there were Zulus in his Wild West Show, American Indians yes.
The only connection with the Zulu war was one of the defenders ( Can't think of his name) gave a talk on the action at RD.

Hi Springbok . You are correct , there was indeed a travelling zulu show doing the rounds in the uk at one stage with also one of the VC winners from RD if I remember correctly , but these zulus were never mentioned as having fought '' WITH '' the British during the war . I think this show may have been around in the late 1880's or 1890's , I do remember reading of it somewhere on here a while back . Cetswayo also took a couple of retainers with him when he went to the UK , I dont remember any of the Zulus that fought '' WITH '' the british going to the UK. Cheers 90th.

Remember reading that there were tavelling shows with "live" Zulus from as early as April 1879. And then full-blown shows by The Great Farini, I think. Plus the "circus" that developed around Cetshwayo's own visit to London in 1882. It would be fascinating to know how many of those involved stayed behind but not difficult, I guess, to work out how one or more of them would have ended in the Workhouse. Great post. Dave

Been looking for ages for Zulu's in Wild Bills show. Can't find nothing.
"The Wild West in Britain The Wild West was invited to England in 1887 to be the main American contribution to Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee celebration. "Buffalo Bill’s Wild West" was the hit of the celebration, visited by nobility, commoners, and by Queen Victoria herself. The show was credited with improving British and American relations. "Buffalo Bill’s Wild West" rose to international fame and returned two years later to tour the European Continent."
