Film Zulu Dawn quote: “Excuse me, my Lord, there's something I must convey to you. I rode along the track down to Rorke's Drift. The sky above is red with fire. Your orders my Lord? Do we move to the drift?”

This photo is probably not sharp enough to identify the regiment. But it looks about right for 1870's - In camp at Aldershot.

As if! Isn't it odd how familiar some of those faces seem to be - but just like group photos of more recent times, they all look the same in uniform. What I also find interesting is that these are the original Crimea period barrack huts in Aldershot.

Same huts in an earlier time. Crimea period uniforms.

Steve,

Your first photograph is post-1878 at the earliest. The officers are wearing the star pattern Home Service helmet plate. The detail is blurred when I attempt to increase the image size, but the officer on the far right appears to have a Lieutenant’s star on his left shoulder which would put the image post-1881. Dark facings so either a Royal Regiment of the Line, or an Irish Regiment.

Steve,

The same wooden huts forming the backdrop to the 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment, late 1860’s.
