" Lt.Colonel D. T. Persse served with the 13th Light Infantry during the operations against Sekuknni in the Transvaal in 1878, including the storming of Tolyana's Stadt. Served also throughout the Zulu war of 1879. and was present at the engagements at Zungin Nek, Kambula Hill (wounded), and Ulundi (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Served in the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 with the 2nd Battalion Somersetshire Light Infantry (Medal with Clasp). ''

The write up is a little different in Mac & Shad . Bvt Maj Persse D.T. served with the batt throughout the war , and were present at Zunguin Nek , Kambula and Ulundi . In the latter engagement Maj Persse who subsequently received his Brevet rank was severely wounded .

"Colonel Dudley Thomas Persse was born on 18th March 1839. He was the son of Burton de Burgh Persse and Matilda Persse. He married Mary Creagh, daughter of Stephen William Creagh, in 1888. He died on 6 November Ballydavid, Galway, Ireland 1894 at age 55. He fought in the Zulu War. He gained the rank of Colonel in the 13th Light Infantry.

Child of Colonel Dudley Thomas Persse and Mary Creagh. Henrietta Maud Maria Persse d. c 1960"
