| I've posted this query elsewhere, together with a question about the man himself. However, this would seem a more appropriate place regarding the book itself.
Does anyone hold a copy of:
Experiences During the Zulu War,
T (stet!!!)* W Beeton, Armourer Sergeant, late 99th Regiment. Publisher: Wesleyan Conference Office Publications, 1880?
* Notwithstanding the initials in the advertisement, I am advised the correct initials are J(oseph) W.

| Thanks.
Unsurprisingly, can't find it it any dealer's stocks. (What price would it be?)
It wont be a (public) Library here! Unknown to Trove.
I think my only (forlorn) chance is an aficionado Forum member. |

| Peter35,
I take it you have contacted The Rifles Museum at The Wardrobe, Salisbury, the descendant unit of the 99th?

| Peter,
Here is a link to the Wesleyan-Methodist Magazine. The article you are looking for starts at the bottom of page 395.
https://books.google.com/books?id=qA8EAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA395&lpg=PA395&dq=%22Experiences+During+the+Zulu+War%22&source=bl&ots=Y9zl5pKgae&sig=ACfU3U0dNf2yy1286I0M2G6K3MR3Ge3M5g&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjzkJvElYXvAhXzAp0JHX4ZCBIQ6AEwB3oECAYQAw#v=onepage&q=%22Experiences%20During%20the%20Zulu%20War%22&f=false

| Tom,
Thank you for taking the trouble.
I did come across it while out on my search. Notwithstanding the identical title, I am assuming the book includes details of his duties and experiences as an Armourer Sergeant rather than two and a bit pages of his experiences attending church parades, bible classes and what would now be called inter faith services.

| John,
Apologies for the delay in replying. Missed your post.
I flirted with the idea. With a couple of outstanding exceptions, haven't found Regimental Museums particularly helpful. However, having said that, I'll give it a shot.

| Hi Peter In relation to your research about Beeton, I have a tiny little book printed in 1882 titled "The Life and Letters of a Soldier" by Ever Travers Evered Poole. It is the diaries and letters of a George Stunt of the 60th Kings Royal Rifles. He was at Gingindlovu and the relief of Eshowe. He was a devout and passionate, evangelical Christian and he comments on the church at the fort and worships with many of the garrison. As brothers in Christ there is no doubt that he would have known and worshipped with Beeton. George was later killed at Ingogo in 1881. Perhaps his name and the link with the 60th might give you another avenue to investigate. Happy hunting Kate |

| Hi All The article is extracted from a tiny book actually entitled "Reminiscences of the Zulu War or, The Worth of An Army Scripture Reader" by "A Staff Sergeant", published London 1882 and . It has just 65 small pages, of which the first 17 comprise an evangelical introduction by WJ Evered Poole. Then follows an unedited version of the text reproduced in the Wesleyan Magazine noted above, bar the last five pages of the book which promotes Temperance. Regards, Steven |

| Thank you very much, Steven.
It prompted me to go back and look again at the Wesleyan Conference Office Publications heading in the classified advertisements of the The Watchman and Wesleyan Advertiser of April 28, 1880. I’ve belatedly realised that Beeton’s Experiences During the Zulu War is one of a number of articles in The Wesleyan Methodist Magazine for May, 1880.
Can I just clarify, please. The “tiny book” is pocket / hymn book size (in fact much smaller, it seems)?; and Beeton’s 1880 article comprises 43 pages?
