On page 107 of The Epic Anglo Zulu War on Canvas, William Watson Race writes: “…the death of a certain Col Weatherly and that of his young son Rupert [at Hlobane], caused a great stir. Their ordeal at the hands of the Zulu, became the subject of a poem entitled ‘A Child Hero’ which went the rounds of the provincial and metropolitan presses, The poem was also recited in the old music halls, where audiences were reduced to floods of tears.”
Does anyone have a copy of this poem?
