Help!  I have seen two rather different photographs that purport to show Alfred Fairlie Henderson.  Both photographs appear to be attributed to sources linked to the Henderson family.  One photograph appears in Lock & Quantrill’s Zulu Victory, shows a man with a moustache and a receding hairline.  The other appears in Ian Knight’s Zulu Isandlwana & Rorke’s Drift shows a bearded burlier figure who bears little or no resemblance to the figure in the other photograph.

Does anyone know which is the true image of Henderson?

I thought I'd give someone else a chance first.
This comes from my England's Sons p. 47 and answers your question.
Henderson photos:
(1). Photograph taken in later life in the P. Hathorn Collection which appears in Knight (Knight, Ian, Zulu, [London, 1992], p. 110).
(2). Unpublished photograph taken 1880 in Swaziland in the Henderson Family Collection.
(3). Possible contemporary photograph, second from left, in the KwaZulu-Natal Archives which appears in Lock and Quantrill (Lock, R. and Quantrill, P., Zulu Victory, [London, 2002], p. 108 bottom).
(-) A near-contemporary photograph of Vause in the Henderson Family (Greytown branch) Collection appears misidentified as Henderson in Lock and Quantrill (op. cit., 1st ed., 2002, p. 114). As a result of my informing the authors of the false attribution, the error was corrected in the 2nd ed. 2005.
I hope this helps.

It would seem the Unpublished photograph taken 1880 in Swaziland in the Henderson Family Collection. will be the correct one taken of him and only 1 year after Isandlwana, has anyone seen it ? The only way to get to the bottom of this mystery is if someone has a connection with the family ? FINGERS CROSS

Aussie
From my list above:
(1). is a photo of Henderson.
(2). has to be a photo of Henderson (because it comes from the Henderson Family) but I've not seen it.
(3). is a photo of Henderson and is possibly contemporary.
(-) is not a photo of Henderson but of Vause.
