| Sir Reginald Coupland in his book: 'Zulu Battle Piece.' Written in 1940 there are a number of photographs. Does anyone know if these photos are still around? In the book they are not that clear and it would of immense value to get digital copies. JY / Isandula, any ideas?

| Frank,
Try the University of the Witwatersrand, a Mr. Frank Hawkes of the uni' took some of the photographs that appear in Coupland's book.

| Frank,
It is good place to start, we're looking at 1947 obviously.
Plate V. is it that has captured your imagination?
The book was reproduced in 1991 by Tom Donovan, you should be able to contact him via his website http://www.turnerdonovan.com/ (Don't look too closely though there's a couple of regimental histories that have caught my eye.) Tom may have found out the copyright owners for the photographs - he might be worth a try?

| Plate V it is John. Good detective work so far, can you see why the interest? Im going to spend a few days in JHB doing the Archives, Star/Argus/ Wits and National War museum. Chasing down a few leads, in particular George Chadwicks Report. Plus a few other interesting issues, This photo is a sideline.
Cheers |
