My recollection is that you desperately needed medication to avert being the last casualty at Hlobane. I remember saving Fingers' life during the Buffalo's deluge and, near the end, being rescued by a Zulu with a stick crossing the flooded torrent--shades of Smith-Dorrien's escape and Coghill's selflessness. And where were you: Doing your best to imitate Harward's craven ride for assistance. Ah, the adventure of being "Lost in Zululand." Who was your aide de camp, Dr. E?

JB, As you well know, Fingers and I were doing a recon in the bottle shop. This so the main body wouldn't get into a jam and be surrounded. I can still remember the stud policeman Harry getting swept down the flooded buffalo like a tumbleweed, and that one fellow (now passed) yelling for me to stay with the stranded non-swimmers. I guess we had our own little adventure out in the wilds of Zululand. Remember we, the stragglers, were all treated for hypothermia at Rattray's.

So I assume you are after a Frances.......with something to do with Zululand, but who has maybe never been on the veldt.....and who was daughter of and married to a soldier - most likely an officer......

A wild guess - her husband was killed at Isandlwana - her name was Evelyn - and she died Evelyn Beerbohm on 21 November 1931. She is responsible for the memorial to her late husband in St. Peter’s PMB.
