Charles Tardito was my 2nd great-grandfather. The information in these newspaper articles are the only references I have seen to suggest any connection to South Africa. As far as I am aware he was born in Italy c1858, and the first record of him in the UK is in 1884. He died in 1917, while serving in the Merchant Navy.

Hi All,
Not much again, Can't find him in CMRifles or Yeomanry, or the FAM Police, however he married Rose Ann [Lownie or Thompson] in Dundee in 1901, his fathers name is John Tradito.
He probably died at Sea 21 Feb 1917 as a Fireman on the Princess Albert [can't find this ship but a Prince Albert was sunk by a U-Boat] or HMS St George in the Mediterranan.
