Major T. de la H. Brotherton was employed in Natal during the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal). Served in the Boer war in 1881 (mentioned in despatches) ..

Lieutenant Thomas de la Haye Brotherton proceeded to the Cape with reinforcements; subsequently to Pretoria.

Date of Birth - 15th March 1858
First Appointment - Lieutenant - Royal Engineers - 14th August 1876
South African War - 1879-81 - Zulu Campaign- Medal. Employed in Natal. Transvaal Campaign, commanded detachment of Royal Engineers on march from Newcastle to Laing’s Nek. Deapatches, London Gazette, 10th March 1881.
Source ‘1884 Army List’ (p 495, 785 & 1226)

He was born in Esher, Surrey and in 1901 he was living in Kent as a Major in the Royal Engineers age 43.

Hi All,
Thomas De La Haye Brotherton, married Francis Isabella Clarence 17 Oct 1881 in Manchester. 1891 census Tynemouth Capt RE, 3 children, 1901 census Brompton Barracks Chatham, Major RE. He died 13 Feb 1931 at Pension [Periclare] Peuker Merano Italy, his wife died 17 May 1916 in Southsea Hampshire.
